If I have just this enabled (without Air VPN port forwarding set up), the torrent will download but with a blue face and still gives a connection error even though it still seems to be downloading the file. I had my Linksys setup to forward external 60001 to internal 60001 on my desktop with a static IP. I have Vuze setup to listen on port 60001. When I disconnect from the Air VPN server, the torrent works just fine with a green face. The torrents just give me red faces and then give a connection error or just keep saying "Checking".

simple and to the point.Īnd no Azureus didn't use more meory than this either.I have installed Air VPN client on Windows 7 and have connected to a server. I also run the classic UI turning off the Vuze stuff. and it's got a fully developed and easy to use addon fucntion so I can expand on it as I please with my category and such plugins. it maxes out my connection without killing routers. and even then, I can spare 70 megabytes, for an all across better app. In either cause, 50 of those megabytes are for Java, and is shared between all java apps. Vuze uses up 77 Megs on my mediacenter atm. maybe it's my ISP but they're not known to interfere with bittorrent traffic. it's fine from http/ftp sources, but it's so slow in uTorrent, even if I had like 100 peers connected, or even if I use my private trackers. Recently I'm struggling with my download speeds. Vuze is a lot better than their previous piece of crap, Azureus, it hogs more memory than GTA IV. Don't have any particular reason for it over vuze in that respect.

And it doesn't kill a lot of routers like uTorrent does, without maxing the line.įor quickie torrents of random small stuff form lazy developers who can't provide a regular mirror, I just use uTorrent on my laptop though. there's no real speed difference between them, I max my line on both, but Vuze is my primary client, because it's got everything through plugins, rss feeds, auto categories, moving to folders based on categories, a decent speed manager based on time schedule. I highly doubt this test was done properly with identical settings. but with an up to date java on a computer from the last 5 years. If you tried it on a REALLY slow computer, then yes, you might be able to measure a slower UI. On 10% of these ISPs, uTorrent users were downloading 30% faster than Vuze users.Īny perceived slowness of the UI in Azureus/Vuze is most likely imagined, from the fact you know it's Java, and you've heard form the time of the last century that Java was supposed to be slow. More detailed analysis revealed that uTorrent users get faster downloads on all of the 30 most used ISPs, except Verizon where there was virtually no difference. On average uTorrent users reached a 176 Kbps download speed while Vuze users were stuck at 151 Kbps on the same torrents and with the same ISPs. The research revealed a remarkable speed difference with uTorrent users getting 16% higher download speeds than Vuze users. For each torrent an equal number or uTorrent and Vuze users were selected and these were also matched by ISP, so the type of torrent or ISP could not influence the results. The torrents were tracked for a month and a representative sample of one week was used for the final analysis. The results have been collated in a short paper ( pdf) and it turns out that there are some big differences between the two BitTorrent clients.Īs an initial sample the 600 most popular torrents on the Pirate Bay were used.

In an attempt to determine which of the two get the best download speeds, University of California researcher Marios Iliofotou together with colleagues from Telefonica Research inspected the download speeds of more than 10 million BitTorrent downloaders last August. If we leave out China, the two applications together hold three quarters of the market share which equals close to 100 million users a month. On some ISPs this advantage, which is attributed to differences in design choices, can be as much as 30%.įor nearly half a decade uTorrent and Vuze have been two of the leading BitTorrent clients. UTorrent Download Speeds Beat Vuze By 16%Ī new study comparing the download speeds of more than 10 million BitTorrent users found that uTorrent users achieve significantly higher download speeds than those who use Vuze.
